Marilyn Mosley Gordanier has been a leader in the education realm for 40 years. Having helped start one of the United States’ first home schooling programs and having launched the first online home schooling program in the world, Marilyn pioneered the creation of educational options for non-traditional students, with 8,000 students around the world today.

With this love for helping students fulfill their passions and realize their dreams, when Marilyn was touched by the film Girl Rising and the reality of Amina, a girl in Afghanistan who was forced into marriage at 11 and into motherhood at 12, Marilyn paired up with Zarguna Kargar of the BBC News to bring a life-changing solution to life – leveraging food as a mechanism for encouraging families to send their girls to school.

In today’s 180º of Impact interview, Marilyn Mosley Gordanier and Matt Scott talk about the leap Marilyn took into the unknown of girls’ education in Afghanistan, the barriers she has faced (including the Taliban) and how she has navigated them, the success she’s had educating 289 girls to date, and her vision for the future.
