7-12 GRADE

Even before the Taliban took over,  girls as young as 12  were often forced to marry when families could not afford to buy food or send their children to school. Since 2014, Educate Girls Now has been providing physical and psychosocial support to families whose mothers sign a contract to keep their girls in school.  In return, they receive a monthly stipend and visits from our team to distribute food aid and help in emergencies.

When the Taliban entered Kabul on August 15, 2021, creating chaos, death, and destruction, all girls in 7th – 12th grade were ordered to stay home, reversing years of progress for gender equality. In December 2022 girls were also banned from all universities.

Realizing the horror of these laws,  EGN responded to the crisis with a new program designed to meet the needs of girls and young women who could no longer continue their education. Through this program, girls are provided with home and online learning options. In addition, EGN’s  University Students Program also gives girls an opportunity to complete high school and prepare for college at the established and esteemed Asian University for Women in Bangladesh.  To our knowledge, there is no comparable formal program.

By empowering and educating as many girls and young women as possible, EGN is improving the current and future lives of our girls, their families, and their communities. You can be a part of this mission by sponsoring a girl’s education today.

Eight years ago, when we joined your program, my family had a very poor life. I could not afford to study. We had no money for school After we joined your program, many changes came to my life and my family. My sister and I were able to go and study. Every day I tried harder than yesterday.
