When I was growing up, I realized that a woman is like sunlight that shines through the clouds in the cold winter weather and warms everyone’s day. A woman is Allah’s beautiful smile, she is a part of Allah’s beautiful creations. Happy International Women’s Day to all women heroes. Zahara
International Women’s Day is the day to celebrate the strength, beauty, and existence of women around the world. It is the day to remind ourselves about the strong women breaking barriers and making history. It is the day to acknowledge and support women who are the sole breadwinners, working day and night to help their children survive. It is the day to wish love, happiness, health, and success to all women.
This is a day to celebrate that a home, community, country, and the entire world need women. It is impossible to develop a country without the contribution of women. If a country does not have women contributing to the workforce, it loses half of the population’s talents.
Afghanistan is one clear example that excludes women from the workforce and closed schools for girls. Afghanistan does not believe in women ‘s talent. Taliban believe girls and women solely belong in the home. Taliban do not believe women are equal to men and can make an impressive contribution to ending poverty and helping to improve the economy.
Today, I share that I am one of those girls who was forced to marry a man twice my age when I was 16 in Afghanistan. I am someone who never had freedom, but with support from generous donors worldwide, I had the opportunity to escape Afghanistan, seek freedom, get an education, and build a new life.
I deeply invite kind hearts, supportive donors, and strong women not to forget that I am only one among millions of women in Afghanistan. From my experience, it is terrifying to be trapped in darkness. It is terrifying not to have freedom.
Please help EducateGirlsNow to save more women from hopelessness, and oppression. EducateGirlsNow has been financially supporting Afghan families since 2013 and saving little girls from child marriage through education. In the aftermath of the Taliban taking over Afghanistan, EGN runs an online school program for grades k-12 allowing girls to graduate with certified documents that open up pathways for higher education for girls in the region and Internationally.
